The Garden Party

Guests brought gifts to four corners of the garden. There is exactly one solution. Use each clue to match the people, keepsakes and places.

Your clues

  1. Kit brought the book.
  2. Lena visited the terrace.
  3. The person with the lantern visited the pond.
  4. Max visited the greenhouse.
  5. Lena did not bring the cake.

Make the matches

Tap a square to mark yes (✓), no (×), or clear it. A confirmed match rules out the rest of its row and column.

What this puzzle is about

The Garden Party is a four-person deduction puzzle set at a garden gathering. Kit, Rory, Lena, and Max each brought one gift (flowers, a cake, a lantern, or a book) and settled in one corner of the garden: the pond, the arbor, the terrace, or the greenhouse. Five clues lead to a single solution, and every step can be reached by reasoning alone.

Who it suits

This is a hard 4 × 4 × 4 grid. With four options in every category, each clue rules out less on its own, and you will need to carry facts between the three grids rather than reading answers straight off the clues. It suits solvers who have finished a few easy grids and want a longer session. If you have not tried a logic grid before, start with an easy puzzle such as The Lighthouse Visit and come back to this one.

How to start

Mark the three direct clues first (Kit and the book, Lena and the terrace, Max and the greenhouse), clearing each row and column as you go. The lantern clue does not name anyone, so record it in the keepsakes-and-places grid. Then ask yourself which of the four guests could possibly have been at the pond, given what you have already marked.

How to solve this puzzle

Each person has one keepsake and visited one place. A yes mark eliminates the other options in the same row and column. Combine the clues until all three grids agree.
